First SHPP on environmental flow in Italy

In 2005 Frosio Next presented for the first time the opportunity to exploit the environmental flow for the production of hydropower energy. At the time only few case studies and experimental applications (2003 with the exploitation of the environmental flow of the S. Giustina dam) had been put into practice but it was already possible to understand the revolution that would ensue: the team conceived the possibility to convert the environmental flow, an obligation for the concession holder, into an opportunity. In the following years several hydropower projects for the exploitation of the environmental flow have become popular.
