BASSANA hydropower plant: commissioning completed

February 18th, 2021: a new hydropower plant by FROSIO NEXT has become operational!
This is BASSANA hydropower plant. The plant belongs to the series of hydropower plants in cascade scheme designed to exploit the water resource at the existing irrigation weirs on the Mella river in the area between Brescia and Manerbio.

The project, developed by FROSIO NEXT since its early stages, shows how hydropower is not only a source of green and renewable energy which significantly leads to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, but it is also a virtuous example of how it can improve the river environment in which the powerplant is located.
The proposed solution brings several positive impacts on the environment.
The construction of the plant has allowed the repair of the existing weir, originally without the fish ladder, and it has led to the restoration of the river continuity interrupted decades ago due to the construction of the weir for irrigation purposes, thanks also to the non-depletion of the riverbed ensured by the fact that the plant has been built on the existing weir.
Furthermore, the automatic trashrack cleaner allows a constant cleaning of the watercourse collecting almost all of the waste as well as twigs and other organic material which, in case of floods, could hinder the flow and cause events of flood which unfortunately are ever more frequent.

There’s an hydropower plant but you can’t see it. Thanks to a constant dialogue with the Public Administration, it has been possible to “hide” the plant within the embankments, thus limiting the visual impact of the technological structure on the landscape.

Thanks to a careful and aware design, it has been possible to achieve these results.
